HABC Level 1 Award in Substance Misuse Awareness (QCF)

The HABC Level 1 Award in Substance Misuse Awareness has been accredited by the regulators of England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Ofqual, Welsh Government and CCEA) and is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

The qualification is supported by Skills for Health, the Sector Skills Council for the UK Health Sector.

This qualification is assessed by a written workbook. Learners must complete the Candidate Assessment Pack (CAP) in full and both the Ltp tutor and the learner must sign the front cover.

This qualification is made up of one mandatory unit with the following learning outcomes:

  1. Know what substances are commonly misused and why
  2. Recognise possible signs of substance misuse
  3. Be aware of the social and personal effects of substance misuse
  4. Be aware of the perceptions and responses to substance misuse

The HABC Level 2 Award in Substance Misuse Awareness has been accredited by the regulators of England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Ofqual, Welsh Government and CCEA) and is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

The qualification is supported by Skills for Health, the Sector Skills Council for the UK Health Sector.

It is aimed at learners looking to further their skills and knowledge and gain a qualification in Substance Misuse.

This qualification is internally assessed through learners collecting a portfolio of evidence through the duration of the course. All portfolios will be assessed by the Ltp tutor and then a sample will be checked by Ltp Internal Verifier for Internal Quality Assurance to ensure consistency. HABC External Quality Support will then assess the portfolios ensuring they meet nationally agreed standards.

This qualification is made up of mandatory and optional units

Learners must complete all three mandatory units.

  1. Understand Substance Use/Misuse
  2. Understand how to respond to substance use/misuse
  3. Understand the safe, sensible and social use of alcohol

Learners are to complete one option unit from the following list:

  1. Community responses to substance misuse
  2. Options and Interventions for those affected by substance use/misuse
  3. Substance misuse and young people
  4. Understand solvents and volatile substance abuse
  5. Understand blood-borne infections related to substance use/misuse

Prior to the course commence LTP will negotiate with commissioners/learners to confirm an optional unit suitable to the requirements of the course learning outcomes.

Certificates for successful learners will be presented by LTP
